DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Many humanitarian organizations that are working with particularly vulnerable target groups, e.g., refugees, victims of natural disasters, et al., are relatively small and are often dependent on grant funding to continue their vital work on the front lines. This may be particularly the case for organizations that are working with target groups that are in the field or near the front lines. At the same time, many of these organizations do not have trained research administrators or may not have access to professional development for their research administrators. Faculty presenters are responsible for training audiences on grant proposal preparation, especially for funding agencies that offer grants to humanitarian organizations, e.g.:

  1. USAID
  2. EuropeAid
  3. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
  4. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)
  5. Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA)
  6. SwissAid
  7. FEMA
  8. Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA)
  9. Other funding agencies for humanitarian assistance

DURATION:

1 week preparation

2-3 hour presentation (recorded)

  1. Function of Position - To teach a workshop using slides and handouts on grant proposal preparation for humanitarian organizations during NCURA’s Annual Meeting 2016.
  2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities & Time Commitment – Faculty presenters will need to develop a half day workshop presentation and any appropriate handouts, and they may be asked to provide customized feedback to specific proposal drafts.
  3. Scope of the Work
    1. Develop ½ day workshop presentation and appropriate handouts
    2. Respond to draft grant proposals provided by target humanitarian agencies
  4. Qualifications/Requirements
    1. Knowledge and/or Skills – Stellar presentation skills, an understanding of current humanitarian issues, and a strong commitment to enhancing the research administrator’s operations of humanitarian agencies 
    2. Experience – Substantive experience in: (1) Putting grant proposals together for humanitarian organizations; (2) have applied for various funding agencies, e.g., USAID, EuropeAid, JICA, SIDA, DANIDA, SwissAid, FEMA, Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA), other funding agencies for humanitarian assistance; and (3) providing proposal preparation training.   Prior experience related to International or domestic humanitarian organizations is preferred.
