CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Award Delays

  • 1.  CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Award Delays

    Dear Research Community,
    Our Office of Research Administration services both the University of Maine and our regional campus, the University of Maine at Machias.  We were eligible and submitted both the student and institutional applications for both campuses (total of four applications).  We received both awards for the University of Maine, but have not received the awards for the University of Maine at Machias.  We have emailed and called the numbers
    on the CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund website to find out what the status is of those awards, but have not received a response.

    Has any other institution experienced delays in receiving their awards?  If so, what steps have you taken?

    Yes, we have. Both our Accounting and Sponsored Research Administration offices reached out to G5 and Dept of Ed point of contacts once we made sure all our records were received and accepted. When our Accounting office reached someone at the G5, they said our DUNS number was missing; however, that was not the case. We continued checking every day for the funds to be available to draw. It took almost three weeks for the draw to show up in the system.

    Hi Dr. Hough,

    I was just wondering if your institution had received the HEERF funding. Jacksonville State University hasn't received the funds yet, and all of our documents were validated and accepted.

    Hello Lynn,

     

    Yes, we have. Since then we also applied to the Minority Serving Institution funding under the Covid-19 financial response. I did receive a formal answer from the Department of Education stating they had delays in the disbursing of funds.
