As laboratory space is at a premium in our institution, we are investigating ways to assign new space to investigators based on productivity. We are considering creating benchmark standards for externally research dollars per square foot of space for various disciplines. I was wondering if anyone currently measures research productivity based on dollars per square foot of assigned space, and if so, what sorts of measurements are used. We are paarticularly interested in the best dollar measures of productivity - awards vs expenditures, time frames, etc. Any input or guidance would be appreciated.
