  • 1.  ED Audit Request

    Posted 13 days ago

    Hello -

I'm not sure if this is really new administration related, but we've certainly not received a request like the one we got today from the US Department of Education in recent memory.  Has anyone else ever (or recently - maybe this is a new DOGE-y thing) gotten a request from ED that states:

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is requesting a grant audit confirmation that will enable ED to determine the amount of funds provided or owed to each grant recipients.  This information is needed for inclusion in The U.S. Department of Education FY 2025 Financial Statements.

This came with a form that listed award numbers and requested unreimbursed amounts for each.  Wouldn't think it too odd, but the email request went to people in our institution who typically don't receive these kinds of comms.  Any clues to the normalcy (or lack thereof) of this request would be most helpful.

    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa -

We got one, too, this week. I've never seen it before. The audit confirmation also requested information related to financial aid like Pell Grants.

    Hi Lisa,

This is not the first year the Dept of Ed has requested this information. I know we received an identical request last year at my current institution. We sent in the completed form but did not receive any further correspondence/follow-up. Like Alexa, our form also included Pell and SEOG funding.

Thanks, Rebecca and Alexa!  We were able to get a hold of someone at ED to confirm as well, but definitely appreciate your weigh in.
