    I had some concerns about the solutions proposed by the author of the above article. They don't seem to object to the federal cuts to research grants and refer to "past excesses in DEI programs." They, like the current administration, would like to shift research funding to the private sector. Even with tax incentives to businesses, private funding is unlikely to fill the gap if NSF is cut by 45% and NIH by 55%. Payoff on basic research can take decades- a wait that is unlikely to be acceptable to most businesses.
