The Mexican Academy of Sciences was founded in 1959 as a non-governmental non-profit organization of distinguished scientists, in all fields of research. Since that date, the Academy has grown in membership and influence, and since 2003, has more than 1,900 members in exact, natural and social sciences. The Academy's mission is to: (1) serve as a spokesman for the scientific community; foster the development and consolidation of the Mexican scientific community; promote scientific research, training and dissemination in Mexico; and (2) promote exchanges with scientific organizations and communities in other countries. The Academy's main activities include: (1) science promotion and dissemination; (2) awards and incentives for scientific research; studies; (3) exchange programs; (4) meetings and symposia; (5) national and international relations; and (6) relations with the Mexican Legislative Congress.#InternationalAssociation
