NCURA Commitment Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) recognizes, values, and celebrates diversity of persons, skills, and experiences in its mission to advance the field of research administration. Thus, NCURA is committed to building and maintaining a diverse membership and a culture of inclusion.  Every member of NCURA has a right, without regard to gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion, social class, sexual orientation, ability, personality, functional experience, or background, to fair and respectful treatment, equal access to resources to support professional growth, and equitable opportunities to contribute to NCURA’s success.


Member Position Description

DURATION: Two-year term
1. Function of Position - The Select Committee for DEI shall be responsible for: (1) Promoting, explaining, and encouraging the DEI Mission at NCURA (2) Recommending guidelines and principles in support of the DEI Mission. (3) Development of NCURA’s continuing educational programs on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion including, but not limited to: i. Webinars ii. Articles in NCURA Magazine and elsewhere iii. NCURA Collaborate group(s) (4) Upon request, assist NCURA’s regions develop programs that help the DEI Mission.

2. Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Time Commitment – The SCDEI will meet monthly via Zoom and on an as-needed basis. In addition, much of its work will be accomplished through e-mail and other electronic means (e.g., Collaborate). Approximately two (2) hours per week, averaged across a year, can be anticipated.  

3. Qualifications/Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or Skills – An understanding of NCURA's primary mission as a professional development organization, and a strong commitment to NCURA's role in creating equitable and inclusive environments for a large diverse membership. This requires a strong understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the setting of higher education and research administration.
  • Education and/or Experience – Prior experience with issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion is required. Prior service on NCURA national or regional committees or taskforces also highly desirable.
  • Communication and/or Collaborative Skills – Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team environment, ability and desire to communicate NCURA's mission and goals effectively, and cultural competence in working with people from different backgrounds.

4. Training and Support - The Chair and Vice Chair of SCDEI and NCURA staff provide necessary orientation and support to SCDEI members.

5. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Committee travel for SCDEI is reimbursed by NCURA at times other than the Annual Meeting.

  • A current cv/resume (up to two pages) highlighting your NCURA activities and DEI experience.
