Vice Chair Position Description

DURATION: One-year term followed by a subsequent one-year term as Chair
 
1. Function of Position – Supports the Chair with select committee initiatives. The Select Committee for DEI shall be responsible for: (1) Promoting, explaining, and encouraging the DEI Mission at NCURA (2) Recommending guidelines and principles in support of the DEI Mission. (3) Development of NCURA’s continuing educational programs on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion including, but not limited to: i. Webinars ii. Articles in NCURA Magazine and elsewhere iii. NCURA Collaborate group(s) (4) Upon request, assist NCURA’s regions develop programs that help the DEI Mission.

2. Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Time Commitment – The SCDEI Vice Chair will assist the Chair to convene meet monthly via Zoom and on an as-needed basis and will oversee the meeting agenda. Much of the committee work will be accomplished through e-mail and other electronic means (e.g., Collaborate). Approximately two (8) hours per month and twelve (12) hours per month as Chair, averaged across a year, can be anticipated. 

3. Qualifications/Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or Skills – An understanding of NCURA's primary mission as a professional development organization, and a strong commitment to NCURA's role in creating equitable and inclusive environments for a large diverse membership. This requires a strong understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the setting of higher education and research administration.
  • Education and/or Experience – Prior experience with issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion is required. Prior service on NCURA national or regional committees or taskforces also highly desirable.
  • Communication and/or Collaborative Skills – Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a virtual team environment, ability and desire to communicate NCURA's mission and goals effectively, and cultural competence in working with people from different backgrounds. 

4. Training and Support - The Chair of SCDEI and NCURA staff will provide necessary orientation and support to the Vice Chair.



5. Additional Information (Benefits, Cost Reimbursement, Travel Requirements, etc) - Committee travel for SCDEI is reimbursed by NCURA at times other than the Annual Meeting. The SCDEI Chair and Vice Chair are expected to make reasonable efforts to attend the Annual Meeting.

  • A current cv/resume (up to two pages) highlighting your NCURA activities and DEI experience.
