Leadership in research administration is about more than policy-it's about the people who move the field forward. Check out our recent Q&A with Stacy Riseman, Former Chair of the NCURA Region I Governance Board.

Serving as Region I Chair for the New England community of the National Council of University Research Administrators was especially rewarding because it allowed me to connect with regional members across institutions and help strengthen our professional network. Building relationships, facilitating collaboration, and creating opportunities for members to learn from one another made it meaningful to support a vibrant and engaged regional community.

One of the top challenges of serving as Region I Chair for the New England community of the National Council of University Research Administrators was balancing the diverse needs and priorities of members across a wide range of institutions and professional roles. Ensuring that programming, communication, and engagement opportunities were relevant and accessible to regional members-while coordinating with volunteers and national leadership-required thoughtful planning and ongoing collaboration.

For someone considering running for Region I Chair within the New England community of the National Council of University Research Administrators, my advice would be to spend time building relationships with regional members and learning about the range of institutions and roles represented across the region. The role is deeply rewarding because it offers the chance to get to know colleagues throughout New England, strengthen professional connections, and give back to a community that supports the growth and success of research administrators.
