The most rewarding part of serving as Treasurer was getting a behind‑the‑scenes view of how the region operates and contributes to the broader research administration community. You really feel connected to the mission - supporting professional development, strengthening our network, and helping the region thrive. It's also incredibly fulfilling to collaborate with such dedicated colleagues and see how your work directly supports the success of Region I events and initiatives.
2. What is the top challenge for this role?
The biggest challenge is balancing the cyclical financial tasks with the fast pace of regional activities. There are moments when multiple events, reimbursements, and reporting deadlines converge, and staying organized becomes essential. But once you understand the rhythm of the year and build your own system, it becomes much more manageable.
3. Do you have any advice for anyone interested in running for this position?
If you're considering running, go for it. You don't need to be a CPA - just someone who is detail‑oriented, comfortable with numbers, and willing to learn. The role gives you a fantastic opportunity to grow professionally, expand your network, and contribute in a meaningful way. And you're never doing it alone - Region I leadership is incredibly supportive, and there are great resources to help you succeed.
